Adopting the Rebel Galaxy Wiki
Hello everyone
My name is Pafton, and today I would like to share my plans with this community regarding its future. I'll come straight to the point, I am planning to adopt this community within the next few days. For the uninitiated, adoption means getting administrative and bureaucrat rights. I know, I have been playing the game just for a few days (ever since it came on sale on the Epic Games store, but that doesn't mean that my interest or passion for this community and the game is any less.
If I am able to successfully adopt this wiki, I will be dealing with the following tasks on a priority basis:
- Remaking the theme for this wiki - It might not be evident at the moment, but this wiki used to have a beautiful theme when it used the HydraDark skin. I will reapply that background and additionally make some changes in the theme, so it looks a bit better than the cookie cutter style which is currently there.
- SEO Optimisation - Now, you might wonder what this is about. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, basically, how easily people are able to find the wiki. If I could be frank with you all, on the SEO side out wiki doesn't look bright. We have several important articles like the various Ships as just sub-pages which makes them harder to find, and although I'm trying to fix them, but being just a normal user I am rate-limited every few minutes, which is quite frustrating to say the least. Additionally, although it might seem that currently we have 257 articles, in reality almost a quarter of them are just one line stubs, which is terrible for SEO, see Missile Extender for an example.
- Main Page Redesign - The Main Page is terribly outdated and the layout looks very haphazard and messy. Again, I cannot completely blame the previous administration as a lot of this was caused due to the transition from HydraDark to FandomDesktop without any proper maintenance, but there is no denying the content is a little dated.
- Portable Infoboxes - This one is my favourite project. So portable infoboxes (PIs) are kind of more modern versions of infoboxes, which show up better on mobile and other devices. They are better for SEO too. At the time of writing this, I have already created an important one, Infobox Ship and am in the process of adding this to all the relevant pages.
- Content Filling - A lot of the pages on this wiki are just red-links, and many of the Ships don't have any images. As I go on playing the game, I will be filling in all this content. I call on my fellow editors to help me in this process too.
- Rules article - Fandom mandates that all wikis should have a clear and well-defined Rules article. For my home wiki, me and my team prepared a very comprehensive rules and guidelines page that I will be happy to share over here also.
- Wiki Manager - Currently our wiki does not have a dedicated wiki manager, as the previous one Sitb resigned and no replacement was appointed. I will follow this up with Fandom staff in the coming weeks.
The above are just a few of the priorities in my mind regarding this wiki. Please understand that they are very huge jobs, and it is not possible for, or even anyone else, to complete it all within a few days. I have real-life duties to balance also, but I am confident that we will be able to tackle these problems, and arrive at effective solutions, one step at a time.

- Updates regarding the same:
- Remaking the theme for this wiki - Completed. See below. At the moment there is an issue in displaying the background for the light theme which should be fixed soon. I have added a stopgap image for the time being.
- Main Page Redesign - Completed. The old main page was broken as a result of the CSS from HydraDark.css not being loaded on FandomDesktop. The new main page is visually very similar to the old one and combines elements from both the said old main page and the Outlaw wiki main page.
- Wiki Manager - Neither this wiki nor the Outlaw one currently have a Wiki Manager. I have contacted Fandom staff who have promised to look into it but it's unlikely a Wiki Manager will be appointed at this time, especially considering how little traffic both these wikis get.
- The other tasks are in progress.

Inspiration for the wiki theme
I updated the theme of this wiki soon after I took charge as Admin. Today, I re-updated the theme of this wiki. I would like to share my thinking and rationale behind the same.
- Light Theme - Rebel Galaxy and Rebel Galaxy Outlaw Wiki are merging together. So, as a mark of acknowledgement towards the former wiki I decided to use that wiki's light theme. The teal-ish article background along with red accents have been taken from them. So has the background image which is cover art from Outlaw.
- Dark Theme - The dark theme is our wiki's default theme and was created by me. My inspiration for the same was the former wiki theme, and as a result the old background image has been reused. Patrons of the Outlaw wiki will also be able to relate to this as the blue article background of our wiki is exactly the same as the other one.
I kept link colours yellowish gold, just with varying shades to adjust the contrast. I liked the Fandom's link colours for the same and adapted them.
For me, the theme represents a perfect balance between Rebel Galaxy and Outlaw. It has been delicately chosen and equal symbolism and representation has been given to both wikis. In fact, I reckon the users of the Outlaw wiki will not find much difference between the appearance of this site and their original one. The (non-existent) original community of this wiki will be able to relate to the dark theme (there was no light theme in Hydra).
